ALVANDI Panoral 679-SW, Technical Medium Format Camera

ALVANDI Panoral 679-SW Technical Camera

Panoral 679-SW is a new and different design of the Panoral 679.

As with previous systems, modularity, ease of use, portability, low weight and dimensions are the features of this camera. The camera is compatible with Hasselblad V, H and Mamiya RB67 backs.

Introduction to the Panoral 679-SW Camera

Panoral 679-SW is a technical medium format camera with shift movements. This camera has a new and modern design. This camera is basically designed for wide–angle shooting. However, you can use it up to a focal length of 150mm. SW stands for Shift–Wide. Although in some cameras it stands for Super–Wide.

The camera is designed to be simple enough for the photographer to use for most shooting situations. All parts are made of Aluminum alloy 6061 T6 by CNC machine. All aluminum parts are coated by black anodized and all steel parts coated by Copper-Nickel-Chromium.

Compared to the Panoral 679 camera, this camera has smaller dimensions and a lower price.

Introducing camera components from front to back

ALVANDI Panoral 679-SW Lens boards

Unlike most traditional medium format cameras, this is not a reflex camera. Therefore, all usable lenses are symmetrical. Most popular large format lenses can be used in this camera.

This camera uses Panoral 679 helical focus mount. Therefore, their size is much smaller than previous models. Like other Panoral camera models, engraved grading scale to determine meters and a depth of field on the helical focus mount. The helical focus mount will be calibrated by the photographer for the first use.

Based on the lens used in this camera, a cone is attached to the helical focus mount. This part will be made based on the flange focal distance of each lens. Therefore, each lens board includes a helical focus mount with a special cone. The outer dimensions of the cone are equal to the size of the lens board. The size of the lens board of this camera is 100x100 mm.

A variety of large format lenses from 35 to 150 mm can be used on this camera.

ALVANDI Panoral 679-SW Movements

Unlike the Panoral 679 camera, this camera only includes shifts. The tilt adapter has been removed from this camera. Because this camera is designed for wide–angle shooting, a tilt adapter may be less needed.

Shift movements

On the camera body, the vertical and horizontal shift parts are permanently attached to it. This means that the camera is always provided with shift movements. The vertical shift is in the front and the horizontal shift is in the back of the body.

Both vertical and horizontal shift movements are provided for this camera. These movements are completely independent of each other and their value is +20mm for rise, -15mm fall and ±15mm left and right. These movements are performed by two hand screws located on the right and bottom of the camera.

The table below shows the shift capability in Panoral 679-SW in terms of lens, format position and movements. Note that this table is measured by the software, so it may be a bit different in practice.

Back part in ALVANDI Panoral 679-SW camera

The back of the camera body is designed in such a way that all kinds of back rolls can be connected to it with an adapter. Therefore, a special adapter is always needed for each type of back roll. These adapters can be ordered according to the format and model of the back roll.

Adapters in ALVANDI Panoral 679-SW camera

All Panoral 679 adapters can be used on this camera. As mentioned, for each type of back roll, a special adapter is designed to connect to the back of the camera body. The adapter is an interface for connecting other roll back systems to Panoral 679-SW.

Three models of adapters are designed for this camera, based on which the desired format can be selected.

6x9 Adapter

A 6x9 back roll is specially designed for this camera. This back roll is mounted to this camera by a 6x9 adapter. The 6x9 back roll has the same platform as the 6x17 back roll, but in a smaller format. Changing the frame is based on the numbers recorded on the paper behind the film 120. It has two adapters for shooting 6x4.5 and 6x6.

For the 6x9 back roll, a special ground glass part is designed. This part comes with a folding focus hood.

6x7 Adapter

For the 6x7 format, the Mamiya RB67 back roll is used as a standard and accessible back roll for design. This back roll is mounted by a special adapter to the camera.

For accurate focusing and composition, a ground glass part is designed for this back roll that can be used to focus before shooting.

6x6 Adapter

The standard Hasselblad V back roll is used as a 6x6 format to design for this format. The Hasselblad V series digital backs can be used for the camera. Also, thanks to the Hasselblad V ground glass system, it is possible to use ordinary types of viewfinder and light meters for this system.

The Hasselblad adapter has a manual film winder (manual film advance). So you can change the film frames without removing the back roll from the camera.
